An Ode to The Circus of Fashion
Tuesday, February 19, 2013
So if you are wondering about the title, than you probably haven't read
The Circus of Fashion by Suzy Menkes that was in the NY Times this past Sunday.
It's definitely thought provoking and I have to agree with a lot of what she has to say.
To summarize, she is basically stating that bloggers and editors are often dressing simply to get noticed, for "fame". They wear the most ridiculous of outfits in the hopes of being photographed.
I definitely feel like there are a handful out there that throw on a bunch of high-end designer duds and think it looks good solely for the name...but in reality they just look like, well, "clowns".
Well this is my "look at me" outfit. This skirt is ridiculous to wear out and about but actually there is something about the look I love.
What was stated in the comments was what annoyed me the most. A lot of people saying that blogging has just turned into "look at me, look at me". Well yes, you are looking at me, but I have always felt and continue to feel that my blog is about clothing, styling, inspiration..not about me.
Yes, when I post my "features" that is about me but why can't I feel proud and share that?
There is no better way to show someone how to style something or to give someone ideas on how to wear something then to well...put a look together on someone.
Since I don't have a couple of models handy on a daily basis that falls on me...
Anyway read the article and I would love to hear your thoughts.
Oh and one more thing..It is also insulting to say that we just push whatever we are given.
I have denied a lot of company's because I did not feel that they fit with my style and I am sure I am not alone..I support the ones that do..sue me.
