To layer or not to layer

Shirt-Asos . Pants-Vintage

I always tell people that the easiest way to add interest to your look is to layer.
This is especially true when you are wearing basics.
On the other hand, there is something to be said about a clean, simple look.
I struggled with which way I wanted to approach this particular outfit.
I was diggin' the clean, retro vibe, but kept asking myself if it looked too boring.
I added the shirt underneath, which created an ease and effortlessness to the look.
Things are never black and white.
I can't say I always like a layered look more than a clean, simple one.
It depends on my mood and the vibe I get from a particular piece.
In this case, and with these pants, I actual prefer the non-layered look.
The layer seems to shorten my legs,
and the clean look just seems to fit with the retro vibe of the pants.
Which do you prefer?

i totally agree with you about layering! it totally elevates a look. as for these two.. the simple totally works, but when i see the layer, i'm drawn to that one more. if you were short, sure it might seem leg-shortening, but you already have the height to pull it off!

Both looks are great options, dear Sheree...but I tend to agree that the extra layer of white covers up those fabulous printed pants just a little too much!! You gotta flaunt those babies in ALL their glory!!

I am the same, I always seem to feel like I need to add that extra something (usually a layer of some sort) but like you said, clean an simple can be just as intriguing. I think because of the gorgeous print, it actually doesn't need the extra layer and is striking enough without. Loveee this look Sheree :)

Take care,

Only you can pull off these amazing pants. I am loving the unlayered look just a tad more though, it makes your legs look super long!

I hear what you're saying about the clean, retro vibe, but I'm leaning toward the layer ...

I LOVE it with the layered tee - adds a little more interest - having said that the hair totally makes this outfit - LOVE it tied up! x

I really like them both, I think it works either way! I wouldn't say that the outfit on the left is boring without layers, because I think the patterned pants help to jazz it up a little bit.

This is such a debate for me as well. I love clean looks, but I grew up layering and fin myself gravitating towards it sometimes! Great pants either way ;)

Both looks are great, but the layered look is my favorite!

I love the non layered one. Especially this summer I think short tops and shorter bodied/boxy tops are perfect. Gives a different vibe and I'm liking it!

Younger, fresher and more interesting....layered all the way!
